Remake of The Top Agent (2020)
Scenario
Charles, a retiree, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes an informant in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says: The documentary “The Mole Agent” is powerful because it makes people feel a remarkably similar feeling regardless of age, ethnicity, and gender, and I would describe that feeling very reductively as “I need to call my mom.” In our show, we try to do something similar with tone: does our show fundamentally contribute to that feeling that makes us want to call our moms?
I loved it!
What I expected was a comedy full of cliches about undercover investigators, their crazy escapades, and so on. Instead, we have a series about a man who not only helped others, but also helped himself heal from the loss of his wife.
This great show wasn’t full of cheesy laughs and cheesy lines
At times I was actually moved by the way the issues were handled – like the resident with memory problems. However, it wasn’t just serious stuff that made you depressed or bored as you went through the episodes, it made the show worth watching because you wanted to see how it developed – who stole it, etc.
The cast and acting were great, the camera work and locations well done
I really hope they do another season and offer a great mix of laughs, thrills, script, location and cast like they did in Charles Next, detective style adventures like they did in this one.
